Mainstage and Children's Theatre

Live Theatre Workshop is excited to announce our 2021 Season of outstanding Mainstage and Children’s theatre!

All Mainstage and Children’s Theatre shows will take place at our beautiful new theatre campus at 3322 E. Ft. Lowell Road. Our Children’s Theatre shows for the young and young-at-heart now have a dedicated theatre, and our new Mainstage Theatre now offers two configurations: 3/4 thrust seating and in-the-round seating (each show description indicates the seating configuration).

All of our seating is socially distant with a minimum of 6 feet between you and other patrons. There will be 45 or fewer patrons per show, so seating is likely to sell out fast. As safety permits, we will open additional seating. Please note that masks will be required. The staff is here to help you sign up, get your seats, tell you all about the new seating and facility, and discuss the safety precautions we are taking to keep you, our staff, and our artists safe. We will be as flexible and helpful as we’ve always been with date and seating changes as you get to know our new amazing theatre campus.

If you have a credit from cancelled shows, let us know and we can apply it to your new season.

"A comedy about the artifice of acting... It is also about the artifice of living... An evening of pure theatre." - The New York Times

"A comic masterpiece." - New York Daily News

The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-The-Plow takes us into the lives of two actors: John, young and rising into the first flush of his success; the other Robert, older, anxious, and beginning to wane. In a series of short, spare, and increasingly raw exchanges, we see the estrangement of youth from age and the wider, inevitable and endless cycle of life, in and out of the theatre.

"Maytag Virgin is a witty and earnest meditation on how people connect even when they feel they’re not ready, and what it is to move on while honoring and remembering the things, and people, who came before." - DC Theatre Scene

MAYTAG VIRGIN follows Alabama school teacher Lizzy Nash and her new neighbor, Jack Key, over the year following the tragic death of Lizzy’s husband. The play explores inertia and self-enlightenment, and the bridge between the two.

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after 22 years of child-raising in the suburbs. Greg’s career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate’s career, as a public-school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park—or that has found him—bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. A street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, Sylvia becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn’t understand the relationship between man and dog. The marriage is put in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

June 10 - July 10, 2021

An old-fashioned, new-fangled Irish romance from one of America’s most prolific playwrights. Robert returns to Dublin to reunite with Cait, the woman who captured his heart during a James Joyce literary tour 35 years ago. Dancing backwards through time, the older couple retraces their steps to discover their younger selves. Through youthful Robbie and Caithleen, they relive the unlikely, inevitable events that brought them – only briefly – together. This time-traveling love story blends wit, humor, and heartache into a buoyant, moving appeal for making the most of the present before it becomes the past.

A story filled with sweet charm…Dietz’s convention of mixing the past with the present…works beautifully and when mixed with his signature rich characters makes for a wonderfully engaging time…there’s an honest and sobering realism to the piece that takes this beyond a simple romantic comedy and places it in the realm of a tragic love. - Memeteria.com

Everyone knows the classic princess stories, you know the ones that always begin with “Once Upon a Time”. Those classic tales of magic, dreams, fantasy, and true love. But do you think those stories still hold up in today’s modern world? Is there still true love and bibbity-bobbity-boos in this age of smartphones and Wi-Fi? Would all those princesses still live happily ever after? Two narrators battle it out in an attempt to answer these questions. It is “Princess meets Present” when the stories of Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Beauty & the Beast, and Cinderella are given a modern twist and told Once Upon THIS Time.
