Live Theatre Workshop's response to COVID-19

updated March 21, 2020

Dear Friends,

We are so grateful to all of our patrons for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. With all these changes and uncertainty, we are incredibly thankful to those of you who are willing to donate tickets to cancelled or postponed shows. We are also grateful to those who accept gift cards to see a future show. Your generosity is the reason Live Theatre Workshop will come out of this pandemic with more theatre opportunities than ever before, and we'll do it all at our amazing new theatre campus.

The Production of "Ripcord" has been postponed until next season. The show will run September 10 - October 17 and will take place at our new location at 3322 E. Fort Lowell Road. Season ticket holders' reservations have been transferred to these new dates and over the next week, the box office staff will be contacting each individual with their new date.

All classes are postponed and will tentatively begin again in new formats on April 1st. Amanda and Stephen are working hard to think of alternative rehearsal schedules, virtual events, and new and exciting opportunities for kids who are cooped up at home.

Our Children's Theatre show “The Old Ball Game” has been postponed and and will run as a virtual performance. The date will be announced shortly as well details on how to access the performance virtually.

The cast and crew of the next Etcetera production, "38," is working feverishly to create an online version of the show. Details and tickets for this are coming soon. Angela Horchem's production of "Fin" has been postponed until further notice.

If you are able, please consider making a donation of your ticket during this hard time. As an alternative, we are offering gift cards that can be used at any future show at Live Theatre Workshop.

LTW is working quickly to make a detailed plan regarding the remaining shows of the season, and we will post and communicate that plan soon. Thank you for your patience and support.

In gratitude,

Michael A. Martinez
Executive Director

How is the theatre staff? Are people getting paid?

As of now, the entire LTW staff is healthy and well. We are working mostly from home, but we are taking turns coming into the office. This is a full-time job for many of us, and we have all taken a reduction in pay in order to maintain the fiscal health of the organization.

How long can you stay open without any income?

We have shut down all non essential costs and activities. We have always maintained an emergency fund and we are making some hard choices to allow that fund to stretch as far as possible. With no earned revenue, we are dependent on donations and the generosity of our community. With your help, we are confident that we can weather the duration of this crisis.

What about the new building? Is that in trouble?

No. We have raised enough money to finish the basics of construction and to occupy the building by August 2020. We may have to forego some of the perks and adornments we'd hoped for in the new building, but we will complete the project and have shows and classes in the new space.

What about the rest of the season's shows?

The only show in the current season remaining after "Ripcord" is "The Cake" scheduled for May 14 - June 14. We have a few weeks before this show enters rehearsals. Thank you for being patient as we consider the developing COVID 19 situation and look to the CDC for recommendations on bringing groups of people together to rehearse. We hope we can still do this amazing show for you at its scheduled time. We will be in touch in about 2 weeks when we know if that is safe.

What about next season?

Sabian and Amanda are putting together amazing Mainstage and Children's Theatre seasons for next year. We have delayed announcing those seasons because the whole schedule has to be re-ordered. We are working to get that out as soon as possible. As always, we can take your season ticket orders easily and quickly over the phone or through the mail.

What happens in the meantime?

If you coop up a bunch of artists in their homes, it doesn't take too long before they have a million new creative ideas. We are working on several virtual and low-contact events to help you and our kids pass the time and remember how much joy there is in this world. Many of these events will be free as a thank you to the generosity and patience of our patrons. Keep an eye out for exciting music and theatre opportunities from Live Theatre Workshop.
