About the Show
Do we ever really know our parents? Do we want to? Really? Two sisters are about to find out when they discover a hat box hidden in the back of their recently deceased father’s closet. What sits inside sends them off to visit their eccentric Aunt Esther and on an increasingly wild ride down memory lane. With surprising twists and hilarious turns, this brand new comedy of family lore revels in the bizarre and beautiful mysteries that make up a life.

Jodi Ajanović
Claire
Jodi Ajanović (Claire) originally hails from the Midwest where she studied Theatre Performance at Indiana State University. Upon graduation, she was the proud recipient of the Tisch-Capson Dramatic Writing fellowship from New York University and the Glenville Performance fellowship from the Oxford Dramatic Society. After her studies, Jodi performed and studied at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. Jodi is excited to be back at Live Theatre Workshop for her 20th season, where she most recently played Arlene in MURDER AT THE HOWARD JOHNSON’S. Some of Jodi’s favorite roles here at LTW include Ana in CLEAN HOUSE, Rose in DANCING AT LUGHNASA, Helen in BABY WITH THE BATHWATER, and Miss Skillon in SEE HOW THEY RUN, for which she was nominated for a MAC award by the Arizona Daily Star.

Avis Judd
Winnie
Avis Judd, she/her (Winnie) loves performing with Live Theatre Workshop! Avis earned her theatre degree from Northwestern University, but gets paid as a middle school math teacher. Favorite LTW roles include Colleen (RIPCORD), Jennifer (THE REALISTIC JONESES), Paige (HIR), Bananas (HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES), Dr. Lorna James (THE EFFECT), and Olive (THE NORWEGIANS). Some other favorite Tucson roles are Desdemona (OTHELLO), Hermione (THE WINTER’S TALE), Kate (OLD TIMES), Karen (AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY) as well as work as costume designer and director. Avis is grateful for her wonderful family - Michael, Sophia, and Moss!

Nancy Lewis
Aunt Esther
Nancy Lewis (Aunt Esther) has lived on the East Coast, West Coast, Midwest and is now a new full-time resident of Tucson in the beautiful Southwest. She is thrilled to be making her Live Theatre debut and is grateful for the opportunity to join this production and its wonderful and welcoming cast and crew. Some favorite credits include: BLITHE SPIRIT (Madame Arcati), a role for which she received a St. Louis Theatre Circle Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, (Lady Bracknell), LOST IN YONKERS (Grandma Kurnitz), ELEEMOSYNARY (Dorothea), COLLECTED STORIES (Ruth Steiner), GOING TO SEE THE ELEPHANT (Maw Wheeler), a role for which she received a Kevin Kine Award or Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama. Keith Wick
Stanley
Keith Wick (Stanley)Keith last appeared at LTW in STONES IN HIS POCKETS. Other favorite roles he has performed at LTW include appearances in THE NORWEGIANS, STAGE KISS, APPROPRIATE, THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES, BUYER AND CELLAR, THE SAVANNAH DISPUTATION, ONE SLIGHT HITCH, TWO INTO ONE, DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, RECKLESS, THREE VIEWINGS, HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE, DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER (Arizona Daily Star MAC Award Winner – Best Actor in a Comedy), WHAT THE BUTLER SAW, A TUNA CHRISTMAS, FUNNY MONEY, LOST IN YONKERS, and DANCING AT LUGHNASA.
With more than 40 years of stage experience, KW has enjoyed a wide range of roles, including Joe Alsop in THE COLUMNIST, Fluellen in HENRY V, Second Man in AND THEY DANCE REAL SLOW IN JACKSON, and Clive Champion-Cheney in THE CIRCLE. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Keith is also the recipient of an ariZoni Award for his portrayal of Dromio of Syracuse in the Southwest Shakespeare Company production of A COMEDY OF ERRORS. He sends love to his wife and daughter for their unwavering support.

Annette Hillman

Annette Hillman (Marsha) last appeared at Live Theatre Workshop in THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY and THE OTHER PLACE. LTW productions she has directed are FOREVER, PATSY CLINE, BELOW THE BELT and LOOT. She will next direct THE INCIDENT AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP at the Invisible Theatre, coming up in March! Thank you to Doug, who last directed me during the Iron Age at Purdue and continues to make me laugh.

Doug Finlayson
Director
Doug Finlayson (Director) recently retired from Webster University in St. Louis where he taught directing for 27 years. His work in St. Louis includes TIME STANDS STILL, LOST IN YONKERS, THE SUNSHINE BOYS, and THE WHIPPING MAN at New Jewish Theatre, EQUUS and TRUE WEST at HotCity, THE BREMEN TOWN MUSICIANS at Imaginary Theatre Company, ELEEMOSYNARY at Mustard Seed Theatre, and COMPANY at Insight Theatre Company. He has worked regularly at Illinois Shakespeare Festival directing THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR, PERICLES, HAMLET, ROMEO AND JULIET and THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. Other Midwest productions include VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE, JEEVES INTERVENES, ACT A LADY, and RESIDENT ALIEN for Nebraska Repertory Theatre, THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES at New American Theatre in Rockford IL, THE IMMIGRANT at Madison Repertory Theatre in Madison WI, and LADY LOU: THE KLONDIKE MUSICAL in Aspen CO. Doug started his career in Chicago. He served as Associate Artistic Director at Wisdom Bridge Theatre, where he directed PAINTING CHURCHES, THE IMMIGRANT, 'NIGHT MOTHER, HUNTING COCKROACHES and CIRCE & BRAVO.

Suzanne Cipra
Stage Manager
Suzanne Cipra (Stage Manager) is happy to be stage managing The Hat Box. Suzanne has been stage managing at LTW for 10 years, and some of her favorite shows that she has done at LTW include SIC, DEATH BY DESIGN, ALWAYS…PATSY CLINE, THINGS BEING WHAT THEY ARE, WAITING FOR DOGGO and THE SAVANNAH SIPPING SOCIETY . Suzanne would like to thank you for continuing to support local theatre and she would especially like to thank her husband Kyle for being so supportive!

Braeley McIntire
Assistant Stage Manager
Braeley McIntire, they/them (Assistant Stage Manager) currently attends Empire High School as a junior and works in both the technical theatre and acting aspect. This is their first assistant stage managing job outside of school, but they have worked on other shows at school. They’ve worked on multiple shows and been a part of multiple different shows such as QUEENS, QUEST, etc. They hope you enjoy the show!!

Matthew C. Copley
Set Design & Head of Construction
Matthew C. Copley (Scenic Design / Construction) is a native Tucsonan, and has been an avid participant in all sorts of theatre things for most of his life. Matthew is thrilled to be back with his LTW Family, and while he typically feels more at home ON stage, he also loves the technical side of things. This marks only the second time Matthew has designed a set for LTW, with the first being for SHOW PEOPLE. More of Matthew's previous work at LTW includes roles in MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS, STAGE KISS, BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK HOLMES MYSTERY, BELOW THE BELT, [SIC], OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES, LAUGHTER ON THE 23RD FLOOR, MOVE OVER MRS. MARKHAM, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) [REVISED], and PHOTOGRAPH 51. Other acting credits include STONES IN HIS POCKETS with Beowulf Alley; HOT L BALTIMORE with The Nathalia Stage Ensemble; MACBETH, RICHARD III, and A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM with Tucson Community Theater; and THE SINS OF SOR JUANA with Borderlands Theater. Richard Gremel
Lighting Designer & Technical Advisor
Richard Gremel (Lighting Designer/Technical Advisor) has been designing at Live Theatre Workshop for the past 18 seasons. Some of his favorite designs were for YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, TILLY THE TRICKSTER, and TALL TALES: LEGENDS OF AMERICA. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he received a B.F.A. in Theatre Education. Richard is the acting and technical theatre teacher at Empire High School. He is the recipient of the Arizona Thespians Teacher of the year (2017-2018 & 2023-2024) and the OnMedia Tucson Arts Hero (2018-2019). Aside from teaching, Richard acts, directs, and writes plays for the LTW stage. He currently has 11 published plays which have been seen all over the United States, Canada, India, Hong Kong, England, Italy, and Australia. www.richardgremelplaywright.com

Michael Zimmerman
Sound Designer
Michael Zimmerman (Sound Designer) is a recording artist, music director, audio engineer, and private music instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience and more than 35 years of acting and performance experience. He spent 25 years as a touring musician with Honeybeegroove and Kristen Chandler. After graduating from the University of Oregon in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology, Michael moved to Tucson, AZ. He is the music director for Center for Spiritual Living Tucson, and teaches guitar, piano, voice, drums, percussion, and bass guitar as a master teacher at Music & Arts.

Shana Stilley
Costume Designer
Shana Stilley (Costume Designer) is incredibly happy to be back at Live Theatre Workshop as part of this production. Shana was a 2009 Arizona Daily Star MAC nominee, a 2011 Tucson Weekly Best of Tucson recipient, as well as the 2021 The Taming of the Review, Best Director, and Best Show recipient for the critically acclaimed production of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH. Other favorite productions include: SWEENEY TODD, LES MISERABLES, THE PRODUCERS, MAMMA MIA, and AUGUST OSAGE COUNTY. Shana currently serves on the board of directors of the Pima County Joint Technical Education Advisory Committee. -For my husband; I’m your number one fan.

Karin Hupp
Prop Master
Karin Hupp (Prop Master) has been the prop master for over eight years; she also does scenic painting and box office. Some of her favorite projects included the wedding cake for ONE SLIGHT HITCH, the hound from BASKERVILLE: A SHERLOCK MYSTERY, and the cookies from FROG AND TOAD. Favorite scenes she has painted include Dorothy Parker's VICIOUS CIRCLE and the bookshelves in THE COLUMNIST. Karin enjoys working for LTW because it helps her grow as an artist.
