Live Theatre Workshop is excited to announce our 8th Annual Young Playwrights of Tucson Competition for local students in grades 6–12 during the 2026–2027 school year.

Each year, we open our stage to showcase Tucson's young artists. Selected playwrights will work with local theatre professionals to develop their scripts and see their original work produced as part of our Young Playwrights Festival.

Winning Playwrights Announced: March 5, 2027

Playwright Mentorship Feedback: Scheduled per playwright winners in the month of March 2027

Student Auditions & Tech Interviews: April 11, 2027 (any final rewrites are due)

In person Read Thurs with Cast and Crews: May 2, 2027

Free Production Camp: Tuesday, June 1 – Friday, June 4, 2027   Time: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Submission Guidelines

• Open to students in grades 6–12 during the 2026–2027 school year.

• Scripts must be original works and may be any genre.

• Maximum 7 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font.

• Maximum 8 characters.

• Include a cover page with:

  • Play title

  • Character descriptions

  • 3–5 sentence plot synopsis

• Do not include your name anywhere on the script. All submissions are judged anonymously.

• Excessive or unnecessary inappropriate language may result in disqualification.
